RONGEAD and INADEZ Formation are mostly involved in the north east of Ivory Coast, in the Bondoukou region, where they’re covering approximaely 2500 active members. According to RONGEAD, ‘this region manages to produce 10,000 tonnes per year, in spite of its difficult climatic conditions’. The Anarcade Project was first started by RONGEADs in started in 1993. The first few years of the project were centered on the provision of technical consultation services and training for producers on precautionary measures that would ensure quality standards. Currently, RONGEAD and INADEZ Formation are working with producer cooperatives who have started cashew processing for the fair trade market in France. Major areas of intervention include management of commercial transactions, improvement of produce, and diversification of commercial groupings in order to encourage manual shelling. The quality nut poster seeks to educate producers on easy identification of diseased nuts. Other materials available include sets of cards (with images representing the themes) to be used by the multipliers, cartoons (in the local language) of cultivation methods and a technical booklet for trainers.
