World cashew stakeholders meet in Dar today

The plight of small cashew nut growers will be top on the agenda when stakeholders from various countries that produce the crop meet in Dar es Salaam from today. The President of Africa Cashew Alliance (ACA) Executive Committee, Mr Carlos Costa, said yesterday that the three-day meeting would be attended by more than 100 delegates including cashewnut growers, buyers and processors.

Vietnam expects to earn US$1bil from cashew exports

Vietnam is likely to achieve its target of earning US$1 billion from cashew nut exports in 2008, said Nguyen Duc Thanh, acting president of the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) at a press briefing in Ho Chi Minh City on Sept. 6. He said that the country exported 109,000 tonnes of cashew nuts in the past eight months, earning US$597 million, and is expected to ship a total of more than 160,000 tonnes this year.

India has retained its leadership position in cashew exports in 2007-08 by exporting 1,14,340 tonnes valued at Rs 2289 crore. Vietnam and Brazil are closely behind India in exports.
